The Civil War took Sonja Brooks' husband and left her alone. Unprotected and scared, she runs headlong into a life changing event when she's attacked by a pack of wolves. Her fate as a werewolf is sealed. When she stumbles upon Ty Loflin, a Rebel soldier dying of his wounds, she nurses him back to health. He's the perfect mate, but will he want her once he knows the truth?

In Book 1 of this new series by Award-winning author Catherine Wolffe, the Western Werewolf Legend weaves a new blend of steamy paranormal romance with historical elements involving werewolves and vampires.

The Lady in the Mist The Western Werewolf Legend #1 edition by Catherine Wolffe Ally Thomas Paranormal Romance eBooks

This is the 2nd book by Catherine Wolffe that I have read. I read her book Comanche Haven first to get an understanding for the Loflin family. Tyler Loflin, who is introduced in Comanche Haven, is the main male character in The Lady in the Mist. I am honestly a little torn over my feelings with this book.

As with many e-books, there were some edit errors. I found points where words had been used in the wrong manner, or the wrong words altogether. This however is an editing or publishing issue, not just an author one. The biggest trial I had was as simple as names. In Comanche Haven, Seth Loflin is the main male character and is Tyler's half-brother. Seth's love interest is Celia. When you read The Lady in the Mist, Tyler thinks of home a lot. When he does, the names John and Cloe are used instead of Seth and Celia. This inconsistency kept me very confused in my understanding of the characters. If you have NOT read the first book, you would not notice it. I like having a good feel for imagery and character relationships when I read. So some of that connection was not coming together for me as smoothly as I would have liked.

The main female in this story, Sonja Brooks, is a young widow. She is very easy person to connect to. I found her believable, the same with Ty. The story line at times felt... jumpy, to me. I was very intrigued by the overall idea, I just had moments where I felt like parts of the tale skipped. I would get a feeling like I had missed something, I would backtrack what I read and still be like, "Huh?". I do not know how else to explain it, other than certain moments needed....more. I found myself confused at several points.

I am a big paranormal fan, it is my go to genre when I do not know what to read. I am always looking for that story with the 'new' idea. I can see where this author was trying to do that. There are some very good concepts with the werewolves and vampires happening. I just get a sense of not seeing the full scope of it yet, like the full picture is still waiting. I know the author has more books in this series, so I am very much hoping those questions will be answered in the forth coming ones! I know that everyone has different reasons for reading, different things they expect. This is simply MY take on The Lady in the Mist. I DID like the tale, there IS great emotion in it and I AM wanting to know the rest of the story!

Love this Book and highly recommend to anyone!!!
I really wanted to like this book - a western paranormal, two of my favorite genres, but it was not to be, since it seems to have been written by a second grader, since the same statement was repeated several times in the first few pages. Just because a word is spelled correctly does not mean it is the right word. This is the rare book I could not finish, finding the use of incorrect grammar to be too jarring. Seriously, within the first 15 minutes I found the following "she treaded her fingers" - that should be threaded. She "snatched up the tale of her old gown" - that should be tail. "She would be trusted up" - that should be trussed. Then we have the misspellings "Sonja's mouth had gapped" - gaped is the correct word. I am sure the expression "You've got to be kidding" was not used at that time, apparently 1864 (there is mention the husband went to serve when the Civil War broke out, 3 years earlier than the book takes place). Alice in Wonderland was published in 1865, and it is doubtful a woman on the Western Frontier would read it at all, much less a year before it is published. Disinfectants were invented in the late 1800's. I only read books (even the free ones) with at least 4 stars, so this is a one star to offset the 5 stars others have given, for reasons completely unknown to me.
This series looks very interesting and I can't wait to read the rest. Very exciting, romantic and entertaining to say the least.
There's a lot going on in this werewolf/vampire/Guardian/witch/Yankees v Confederates Book #1 to a new series by Catherine Wolffe. The story starts off simply as Sonja picks peas in her garden on Brooks Farm in Spotsylvania. I was confused about how much time passed between Sonja was attacked and bitten and then nursed back to life by the witch, Hortense, and when Ty is saved and brought to the farm. The best parts are the interactions of the people trying to get to know each other in extraordinary circumstances. A lot of series start out with more questions than answers, but I am sure Catherine Wolff will help the readers make sense of it all in her new series.
Love and War go together well..and throw in the paranormal..perfect book to enjoy.. the plot is well written..the descriptions are above average of the war and reactions of those involved..I don't give spoilers away..so you will have to read this book to find out what happens..and once you do you will be hooked on Catherine Wolffe and her series if you're a true lover of paranormal and romance.
Sonja's life is changed forever when she changes into a mythical creature after . . . and with no hope to have love again.

Ty is in the civil war and has no idea that . . . is going to change his life with . .. ;)

Time can only tell with these two if they can withstand the vampires in there area or their passion.

Will they stay together or split after . . .?

Enjoy!! )
I love the premise, I really like the characters. But the typos and continuity issues drove me nuts. I had to force myself to keep reading. At one point I was so frustrated I started posting corrections through the comments tool.

Please, please get a careful proofreader to go thru the next book!! If I had not been shaken out of the flow, sometimes multiple times in a single chapter I would have been able to rave about this book. Instead I am forced to nearly pan it, which is a shame. This is a great draft of the manuscript, when will a corrected version be released?
